Rotary Club of Waukegan Holds Annual Raffle

Rotary Club of Waukegan completes it's  2018 car raffle.

Starting in 2008 with a 1969 Olds 442 and the club was off and running with a signature, annual raffle that allowed the club to give funds to local charities that needed the help most.  Over the years since, we've successfully raffled off a 1965 Mustang, a 1965 Thunderbird Landau, a number of 1966 Mustangs, and our current 1989 fox body convertible Mustang.  It was a local find by Al Oller, Ted Stanulis, and Bob Haymaker out in Lindenhurst and owned by Caren Giertz who only used it in the sunny summertime.  Because Mrs. Giertz garaged the car in the winter, the miles were kept to a low 65,000 or thereabouts.

The drawing was held on September 20th during our regular weekly club meeting at Bonnie Brook Golf Course and Mrs. Giertz joined us for the big event.  Rhonda, our usual waitress, was asked to pull the winner from the drum and the lucky new owner was Mr. Warren Kosters who saw the raffle info on www.oldcarraffle.com, a website that we have used for years and all of our cars.  Mr. Kosters is from Paradise Valley, Arizona and purchased two tickets for $40.  The second of the two was the winner.  Due to him living over 1,400 miles from here, arrangements were made to ship the car to him in an enclosed hauler.  The Mustang left on October 5th and arrived the following week.

This was a wonderful event for our club and it will allowed us to again make much needed donations to many of our Waukegan and Lake County charities.  The club members who participated enjoyed some great camaraderie and talking to many people at the various car shows and Ace Hardware events helped us demonstrate that service organizations like Rotary International are still vital to our community and support worthwhile goals internationally such as Polio eradication, clean water, literacy, and world peace through understanding.
